This weekend’s Premier League fixtures will be played against a backdrop of increasingly settled spring weather
This weekend’s Premier League fixtures will be played against a backdrop of increasingly settled spring weather, as high pressure begins to exert more influence across the UK.
While some showers are still likely on Saturday, particularly earlier in the day, conditions are set to improve, with brighter spells developing widely. Sunday looks drier and sunnier for most, though nights will be cooler, and by Monday a freshening north‑easterly breeze may make it feel more subdued, especially under cloud.
Temperatures will generally sit close to or slightly above average for mid‑April, with the best of the warmth likely to be felt during sunny spells on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday’s fixtures
Brentford vs Fulham (12:30)
The lunchtime kick‑off in west London should see largely dry conditions. Cloud is likely to dominate during the morning, with the chance of one or two isolated light showers early on. As the afternoon progresses, brighter spells are expected to develop, bringing a more pleasant feel to the match.
Winds will be light and variable, so conditions should feel comfortable for players and supporters alike. Temperatures are likely to peak around 17°C, making for a mild spring afternoon once the sunshine breaks through.
Leeds United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (15:00)
At Elland Road, the afternoon will start on a cloudy note, with showers possible at first. These showers should become less frequent as the game progresses, with longer spells of sunshine developing later in the afternoon.
There will be a noticeable easing of the breeze into the evening, and cloud is expected to break up more readily. Maximum temperatures around 15°C will feel reasonable, especially when the sun comes out, though it may feel cooler during any showers.
Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth (15:00)
Conditions in the north‑east of England will be similar, though a little cooler. A cloudy start with scattered showers is expected, particularly earlier in the match. These should ease during the afternoon, allowing brighter spells to develop.
Winds will gradually ease and clouds will thin later on. Temperatures are likely to reach around 14°C, with a fresher feel than further south, particularly in shaded or breezier stands.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton & Hove Albion (17:30)
Saturday evening’s match in north London should be largely dry. Cloudy conditions may linger at first, along with the chance of an isolated light shower early on. However, sunshine is expected to develop more widely through the afternoon and into the early evening.
Winds will remain light, and with temperatures close to 17°C earlier in the day, conditions should remain mild for a 17:30 kick‑off. As daylight fades, it will turn a little cooler, but overall it looks favourable for football.
Chelsea vs Manchester United (20:00)
The late kick‑off at Stamford Bridge should bring settled conditions. Any early cloud or isolated showers from the afternoon are expected to have cleared, with drier weather setting in.
Skies may remain partly cloudy, but winds will stay light and temperatures should still be relatively mild for the evening, dropping slowly from around 17°C earlier in the day. It should feel comfortable for players, with no significant weather hazards expected.
Sunday’s fixtures
Aston Villa vs Sunderland (14:00)
Sunday begins with a noticeably cooler start, but conditions should quickly improve. For the early afternoon kick‑off in the West Midlands, dry weather is expected, with spells of sunshine developing.
Light winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to recover steadily through the day. While it may feel cool in the shade or early on, sunny spells should make conditions pleasant for spectators.
Everton vs Liverpool (14:00)
The Merseyside derby looks set to be played under dry skies. After a chilly start to the day, sunshine is likely to become more prominent by early afternoon.
Winds should remain light, and while temperatures will not be especially high, they will feel comfortable in the sunshine. With no significant rain expected, conditions look favourable for a high‑tempo match.
Nottingham Forest vs Burnley (14:00)
In the East Midlands, Sunday afternoon should remain dry, following a cool morning. Sunshine is expected to feature, although some thin cloud may drift through at times.
Temperatures will be close to average for mid‑April, with conditions feeling pleasant in sunlit areas. Winds are likely to be light, reducing any wind‑chill in exposed stands.
Manchester City vs Arsenal (16:30)
Sunday’s late match in Manchester should also remain dry. After the cooler overnight temperatures, the afternoon will see sunshine breaking through, though some light cloud may persist at times.
Temperatures will be modest but comfortable, and with only light winds expected, conditions should feel fairly settled for the closing fixture of the weekend.
Monday’s fixture
Crystal Palace vs West Ham United (20:00)
Monday evening brings a subtle change in the weather pattern. A north‑easterly breeze is expected to introduce more cloud across southern England, bringing a cooler feel to the evening.
There is a small chance of an isolated light shower, but most areas should remain dry. Winds will make it feel a little cooler than over the weekend, particularly after sunset, so supporters may notice a sharper chill compared with Saturday and Sunday.
