Today:

Cloudy in the north and west today with rain moving into northwestern areas. Largely dry across much of England and Wales with some very warm sunshine in the southeast today.

Tonight:

Heavy rain slowly moves across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland tonight. Largely dry and cloudy in England and Wales with some drizzle in the north and west.

Wednesday:

Heavy rain moves across Scotland, Wales and England on Wednesday with some heavy bursts at times and perhaps some hail in the east. Warm in the southeast, fresher elsewhere.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Largely dry, bright and settled on Thursday. Outbreaks of rain and strong winds move across the north at times, but staying mostly dry in the south with sunny spells.

Changeable as Atlantic frontal systems bring spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions are most likely across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but wet and windy weather may extend more widely across England and Wales at times. Between systems, periods of drier and more settled weather are likely, especially in the south and east. More widely dry and more settled conditions could develop through the first week of October. Temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal overall.

The changeable and unsettled weather is likely to continue, with wet and windy weather even perhaps become more frequent. As is often the case for October, deeper areas of low pressure may also bring periods of very strong winds, especially across north and west. There is no reliable signal for any long-lasting settled weather, but fair days are likely between weather systems, especially in the south and east. Temperatures are expected to remain generally above average overall, although cooler interludes are possible.
