Rain moving southeastwards today. Otherwise some sunshine. Blustery showers northwest.

Today:

A fine though locally frosty start in the south. A band of cloud and increasingly patchy rain moving southeastwards across England and Wales. Sunnier skies to the northwest, but with showers, some heavy. Cool, with blustery winds in the northwest.

Tonight:

Patchy rain clearing from southeast England, then chilly with clear periods in the south this evening. However, blustery showers in the northwest becoming increasingly widespread overnight, some heavy and thundery.

Wednesday:

A mix of sunshine and showers across the UK. Some of the showers heavy with hail and thunder, even some wintriness over the Scottish mountains. Brisk and chilly northwesterly winds.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Sunshine and showers again on Thursday, with more persistent rain in the far west. Becoming mostly fine from the west on Friday. Further rain arriving from the west on Saturday.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. Initially temperatures likely cooler than average, but tending to recover, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period as it tends to become more settled, especially in the south.

Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May. Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is likely to be longer spells of fine and dry weather. Temperatures are most likely to recover close to average, perhaps becoming warm at times. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times.
