Wet and windy conditions moving eastwards on Friday.
A cold start with any fog lifting as winds strengthen from mid morning with showers in the northwest. Turning cloudier with more persistent rain arriving from the west during the afternoon as winds strengthen, possible coastal gales in the west.
Heavy rain will continue to move eastwards with clear spells and showers following in behind. Showers can be locally heavy with hail and thunder in the southwest. Windy along coasts.
Rain continues to move towards northeastern Scotland, but intensity easing during the morning. Showers elsewhere which can again be heavy with hail, thunder and gusty winds. Rather mild for December.
The return of more rain on Sunday. A more settled spell for Monday with sunny spells, before turning unsettled again in the evening. Heavy persistent rain moving in on Tuesday.
Updated:
A short spell of mainly settled weather is expected for the first couple of days of this period, with any rain or showers in the far north or west, and the rest of the UK mainly dry. Thereafter, low pressure systems will tend to dominate, bringing showers or longer spells of rain to much of the UK. Some heavy rain or showers are expected, with the wettest conditions overall in the west of the UK. Snow will probably be confined to high ground in the north. Periods of strong wind are possible, especially around coasts and if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly above.
Updated:
Changeable conditions are expected across the UK during this period. Low pressure systems will probably dominate, meaning showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, for much of the UK and some hill snow in the north. Periods of strong wind are also possible, especially around coasts. Some drier, more settled spells are possible but how long these last is very uncertain. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly above overall.
