Settled weekend before signs of some wetter weather to come
Much of the UK is expected to see a largely dry and settled weekend courtesy of a developing area of high pressure, ahead of increasing chances of rain and more changeable weather from early next week.
A settled weekend for most
As rain clears the southeast on Friday, high pressure will build across the UK, bringing a calmer and cooler feel to the start of the weekend.
Saturday will be largely dry and settled for many, with sunny spells, generally light or moderate winds and temperatures around or slightly below average for the time of year. There will be a few exceptions however, as some potentially heavy showers remain likely near eastern and southeastern coasts. Overnight will also be particularly chilly, with a wide risk of frost in parts of the north.
Sunday continues to remain largely dry and settled for many, however there is a chance that rain or showers could develop more widely inland across parts of eastern and southeastern England during the day. Though cloud could increase in the far north and northwest later, accompanied with some patchy rain, elsewhere, conditions remain largely dry.
Growing chance of wetter weather next week
Looking ahead to next week, there are signs a more changeable pattern of weather could emerge as the influence of low-pressure increases. Rain or showers likely to affect parts of England and Wales on Monday and Tuesday, with southern areas currently more likely to see some rain. However, many places still largely dry but with uncertainty over exactly where rain will develop as well as how widespread or heavy it will be.
Met Office Chief Forecaster, Chris Bulmer said: “For many, this weekend brings a window of dry and bright autumn weather, with some sunny spells and light winds as high pressure stays dominant. Overnight may feel particularly chilly, and those in eastern and southeastern areas should watch out for some heavy showers.
“There are signs that high pressure will loosen its grip through next week, allowing for lower pressure and Atlantic weather systems to have more influence by the end of the week, increasing the chance of spells of wet and windy weather for all areas.
“There is still some uncertainty in the likely change in weather patterns through next week with details expected to become clearer over the coming days.”
