Amplifying our weather warnings
We aim to reach as many people as possible with our warnings by working in partnerships with other organisations.
Our weather warnings are essential to keep people in the UK safe from severe weather and its impacts. They help people, communities and businesses to prepare for events like heatwaves or storms and make informed decisions to mitigate risks.
The role partnerships play
As well as distributing our weather warnings across a range of channels including our own web, app and social media channels, we work with partners to reach as many people as possible across the UK. Our partners help extend the reach of the warnings by ingesting them into their own products and sharing them via their own channels.
How partners use our warnings
Partners can incorporate our warning data into their own channels by using our weather warning API (Application Programming Interface) which supplies the latest information about weather warnings in a machine-readable format. This way, partners like AccuWeather, who provide commercial weather forecasting services worldwide, help us reach people in impacted areas via a variety of additional channels including their own mobile apps.
While our warnings are displayed in partners’ products, they are still clearly branded as being from the Met Office, ensuring people know they can trust the information and we remain the single authoritative voice for weather warnings in the UK.
