Civil Contingencies Advisors

The Met Office Civil Contingencies Advisors (CCAs) are a dedicated team of meteorological specialists whose role is to inform and advise local communities and emergency responders during severe weather and weather-related incidents.

What do CCAs do?

Based across the UK, they provide 24/7 support and work with regional multi-agency resilience groups that are made up of representatives from responder organisations such as the emergency services, local authorities, health sector and utilities. They also participate in high-level government meetings, particularly when severe weather is expected to have a major impact on the public, e.g. with flooding or storms.

How do CCAs help?

Our CCAs help decision-makers interpret forecasts during rapidly evolving situations and assess risks in particular areas. This way, they allow preparations to be put in place, to mitigate the impacts and increase resilience from predicted or ongoing severe weather incidents within the communities.
