International economics reports

This collection of studies has been to independently identify and quantify the impact and benefits of national meteorological services around the world, to their respective economies and societies. Each report utilises an indicative economic model produced by the Met Office to support in indicating the range of economic benefits and demonstrating the value these national services deliver.

The approach reflects growing recognition within the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) community that robust evidence of socio-economic impact is essential for governments to secure realistic and sustainable funding. Such investment enables effective national meteorological services to tackle severe weather challenges and address the climate crisis.

Our findings consistently show that national meteorological services generate significant returns on investment, reinforcing their critical role in supporting resilience, safety, and economic development.
