Met Office weather: Warm and sunny with temperatures rising
As much of the UK enjoys a spell of warm and sunny weather, forecasts are showing pleasant conditions today and tomorrow.
Starting off on Tuesday morning, the Northern Isles will see cloud and light rain or drizzle by day, with some scattered showers in Caithness in the afternoon. Elsewhere we'll see dry and sunny conditions, with much warmer temperatures. Inland areas will see temperatures mostly between 22-24°C, with some areas reaching 25-26°C, as far north as the Vale of York. It will be slightly cooler near the coasts from sea breezes.
The Northern Isles will continue to see some cloud into Tuesday evening, but otherwise across the UK it will be clear and dry. There will be some patches of fog developing and low-lying rural areas could turn cold. However, on and to the lee side of hills and mountains, it will remain mild, with some areas feeling execeptionally mild.

Outlook for Wednesday
On Wednesday most of the UK will be dry and sunny again. The far north and west of Northern Ireland could see some showers, then thickening cloud and some rain or drizzle later. These regions will also be breezier and nearer average temperatures. Central, southern, and eastern parts of the UK will see 24-26°C, with some places reaching 27-28°C. Northern Ireland and southeast Scotland will see reasonable temperatures of 21-23°C, with some places reaching 24°C.
Wednesday evening will bring with it some fading showers across Northern Ireland and the north of Scotland but growing cloud and outbreaks of rain or drizzle will slowly spread southeast in the far northeast. Otherwise, dry and clear, the same temperature contrasts as the previous night prevailing. Rural low ground will be chilly, but areas higher and to the lee of hills and mountains will still be very mild.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Deakin, said: "A little chilly in a few places first thing, but it's going to be another warm day for the vast majority, getting warmer still by tomorrow and then again on Thursday. It's not completely dry and fine everywhere, there's still a little bit of light rain and drizzle across the far north of Scotland, that'll linger in the Northern Isles on and off through the day.
“Otherwise, it is going to be a dry day, and much of Northern Scotland will also turn brighter. A sunny day for Northern Ireland and southern Scotland, and plenty of sunshine across England and Wales once any early morning mist has disappeared.
“Once it has gone and the sun gets to work, those temperatures will be ticking up quite nicely. A warm afternoon widely over 20°C, the mid-20s over the Midlands and down towards the southeast, we could easily peak at 25, maybe 26°C. Some coasts will be a little bit cooler, but generally, it's a warmer day for Scotland and Northern Ireland with more sunshine compared to yesterday.
“Temperatures will dip away a little bit in some places overnight. What should also happen overnight is that rain and drizzle will tend to pull away from the Northern Isles too, so again, it's a dry night for the vast majority. A little bit of mist here and there.
“Through the day today and overnight, there will at times be a bit of a gusty breeze blowing across the southwest of England, that could be noticeable across Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly, and along the Dorset coast as well. The breeze will pick up a little through the night in northwest Scotland.

“Temperatures will be quite interesting overnight because it'll still turn quite cool where we've got the clearer skies over central and eastern England, down to single digits in towns and cities, a bit lower in rural spots. But over some hills in the west and to the lee of those hills, so in parts of north and northwest Wales in particular, temperatures could really hold up, potentially getting close to some records for the overnight temperatures here.
“So quite a contrast in the field first thing, but overall, it's another fine and sunny day on Wednesday. For the vast majority there’s plenty more spring sunshine to come. Temperatures come the afternoon will be higher than today's values. 27°C is possible in the capital, and many areas will be over 20°C. There is some thickening cloud coming towards the western isles later on, so sunshine may turn a little hazy here.”
