Met Office daily weather: Change on the horizon as cooler temperatures give way
A cooler start gives way to brighter skies and rising temperatures across the UK, with changes ahead as midweek weather patterns begin to shift.
Tuesday will begin on a notably chilly note, particularly across northern and western regions. However, conditions will improve through the morning, with many areas enjoying a dry day accompanied by sunny spells. Some cloud may build during the afternoon, especially in central and eastern areas, where a few isolated showers are possible, particularly near eastern England.
Further north and west, thicker cloud will gradually encroach, bringing patchy rain or drizzle to parts of northwestern Scotland and Northern Ireland. Winds will be breezy along some North Sea coasts and more generally across the northwest. In contrast, central and southern parts of the UK will experience a warmer day, with temperatures widely reaching 23-25°C. Southeastern Wales through to southeastern England, including southern coastal areas as far west as Dorset, may see isolated highs of 26°C. Areas affected by onshore breezes may remain slightly cooler.
High pressure and sunny skies will send the temperatures up again this week ☀️

Tuesday night will be milder than recent nights. Northern Ireland and Scotland will remain rather cloudy, with light rain or drizzle persisting in the west and far north. The best of any cloud breaks will be found in eastern Scotland. Elsewhere, many regions will enjoy clear spells, although cloud will gradually increase across western and northern parts of England and Wales as the night progresses.
Wednesday will see patchy rain and drizzle continuing across parts of northwest Scotland and possibly the north of Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, variable cloud cover may bring the odd light shower, but the majority of the UK will remain dry with bright or sunny intervals. Winds will remain breezy in the northwest, but light elsewhere.
Temperatures will continue their upward trend, with a widely warmer day expected across the country. Some southern areas may even experience locally hot conditions, marking a notable shift from the cooler start to the week.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Aidan McGivern, said: “We start off Tuesday with plenty of sunshine, but there will be further showers for a time at least through the morning and early afternoon across the east of England, particularly East Anglia. And there'll be thicker cloud rolling into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.

“This bringing some outbreaks of mostly light to moderate rain, but in between plenty of sunny spells. In fact, for many places, we end up by the afternoon with sunny skies and feeling warmer as a result. 24°C, even 25°C in the south, high teens, low 20s elsewhere. And we keep those bright skies into the evening. But I think for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, we've got the areas of cloud moving their way eastwards.
"Outbreaks of mostly light and patchy rain towards the west. These weather fronts will wriggle across the north of the UK midweek, but they tend to push north as high pressure develops once again across many parts of the UK. This extending from the Azores and then becoming more centred over the UK and this will lead to day-by-day temperature rises and certainly by the end of the week we're looking at widely the high 20s and low 30s. Not just in the southeast, I think further north and west as well, we'll see temperatures rising heading into the weekend."
