Met Office daily weather: Largely dry but turning wetter later

The highest temperatures on Monday will be in central or southeastern areas of England, where some places could reach 22°C with plenty of bright sunshine through the day.

There will be more in the way of cloud further north through the day, with temperatures likely to peak in the high teens in northern England and Scotland.

Through much of the day, the likelihood of any showers is more restricted to eastern areas of England, as Met Office Meteorologist Kathryn Chalk explained.

She said: “There’s plenty of sunshine out there but the main focus for showers in the afternoon will be across Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and East Anglia.”

Turning wet and windy

Low pressure to the northwest will exert its influence from late on Monday and through the day on Tuesday, with rain and some gusty winds likely for many.

Gusts of 55-60mph are possible in northwest Scotland and on exposed coasts near the Irish Sea as a change in the weather pattern takes shape.

Kathryn explained: “As we head through Monday evening… there will be heavy spells of rain moving through across Northern Ireland and Scotland, accompanied by some strong and gusty winds, with some coastal gales possible.

“That’ll sweep through into northern England, south Wales and parts of the southwest by Tuesday morning. In behind that front will be frequently blustery showers once the initial rain moves south and eastwards, but there will be some brighter spells between those showers through the day on Tuesday.”
