Met Office daily weather: Temperatures to peak before cooling slightly
Thursday's weather is set to see the highest temperatures of the week, although feeling cooler in the north.
The day begins with much of England and Wales enjoying fine and warm conditions. However, the northern and northwestern regions will experience cloudier skies with some rain showers, and there is a possibility of isolated thunderstorms in parts of Scotland. As the day progresses, the cloud cover will increase across England and Wales, leading to the development of isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms.
In the northern and northwestern areas, clearer conditions will follow the initial cloudiness, accompanied by scattered showers. These regions will experience cooler temperatures compared to the rest of the country. In contrast, much of England and Wales will continue to enjoy very warm to hot weather, with highs of 29°C particularly likely between London and Bristol.
Into the evening, those isolated thunderstorms are expected to die out, although a few showery outbreaks may persist in parts of England and Wales where the warmth lingers. Scotland and Northern Ireland will see clearer and colder conditions, with the possibility of localized air frost. Coastal areas in the north and west may experience a few showers, adding to the chilly night-time atmosphere.
Temperatures will reach their peak tomorrow. Meanwhile, a weak cold front will bring cooler air in from the north.

Outlook for Friday
Friday will bring variable cloud cover across the southern regions, with isolated showers gradually clearing throughout the day. There is a very low risk of these showers becoming heavy, with the potential for thunderstorms. Northern areas will enjoy clear and sunny intervals, although the far north may see more cloud cover and isolated showers.
There is a risk of low cloud and fog along some southern and eastern coasts, which could affect visibility and create a cooler, damp environment in these areas. Winds will be light to moderate, but fresh along the coasts in the far north, adding a brisk feel to the air.
Temperatures on Friday will be near normal or rather cool across Scotland and Northern Ireland, providing a stark contrast to the rather warm conditions expected across England and Wales. The southeast of England may even experience locally very warm temperatures, making it a pleasant, albeit slightly cooler day.
Aidan McGivern, Met Office presenter and meteorologist, said: “Remarkably warm for the first morning of May, but a big temperature contrast by the afternoon as a cold front sinks south, bringing showers to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
By the afternoon, as this cold front pushes into southern Scotland and Northern England, there's a chance of the odd thunderstorm developing. The heat building across parts of central England and Wales may also lead to isolated thunderstorms later in the afternoon.
Most places will stay dry and very warm or hot, with 29°C likely as the afternoon high for May 1, especially from London to Bristol. However, significant cooling is expected across Scotland and Northern Ireland as the cold front moves south, with temperatures in the low to mid-teens and showers pushing into the northwest of Scotland."
