Met Office daily weather: End of week, end of warm spell?
As we head into the first weekend of May, the weather is expected to bring mild temperatures, isolated showers, and coastal mist.
Friday's weather will start with some showery rain across central parts of the country, though this is expected to ease through the morning. Northern areas will see a scattering of showers under variable cloud cover, and it may feel rather cool here, especially in more exposed locations. In contrast, southern parts of the UK will remain in a warmer airmass, with temperatures climbing to a balmy 27°C in some areas. The Midlands will see slightly cooler conditions, with highs around 20–22°C, while elsewhere temperatures will generally sit in the low to mid-teens.
There is a small chance of an isolated afternoon shower in the south, and coastal areas in the south and southwest may be affected by mist and low cloud at times.

Friday night sees a band of cloud and showers moving south across Scotland, followed by occasional showers in the far north, where it will also turn windy. Later in the night, there is a risk of elevated heavy showers developing and pushing northwards towards the English Channel coasts. Elsewhere, skies will clear in places, with low cloud and patchy fog forming across parts of eastern and southern England. Any lingering showers across the Midlands, northern England, and Wales should fade by early morning.
Air temperatures will be cooling down over the next few days, though if you still have plans to take a dip, note that sea temperatures are also still on the chilly side at this time of the year 👇 pic.twitter.com/OAsTzblgXB

Outlook for Saturday
Saturday's weather looks largely dry for most, with sunny or clear spells developing. Some low cloud, mist, or fog may linger across southeastern areas early in the day, but this should lift. A few light showers or patches of rain are possible in northern and eastern areas, while the far south may see the odd heavy shower, possibly with thunder. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally fresh along coasts. Temperatures will be near normal, rather cool in the north, and rather warm in the south.
Honor Criswick, Met Office presenter and meteorologist, said: "The next few days will feel noticeably cooler, particularly on Friday, as temperatures decline across central and eastern areas. In some locations, we could see a drop of up to 10°C compared to Thursday afternoon.
"As we move into the weekend, Saturday may begin with mist and fog in parts of East Anglia, while Scotland will see increased cloud and some showers in the north. Further south, showers may develop and could become heavy or even thundery, though these are likely to remain near the English Channel. Despite this, many areas will enjoy a dry and sunny start to the weekend, with temperatures in the south still reaching a pleasant 20 to 21°C.”
