Met Office daily weather: Sunshine and scattered showers
The weather provides a typical spring pattern midweek, with sunshine, occasional showers, and a gradual rise in temperatures across the country.
Tuesday sees low cloud linger along eastern coasts during the morning, though lighter winds prevent it from spreading far inland. As the day progresses, the cloud retreats to the coast, giving way to some scattered showers. The heaviest downpours are expected in southern and southwestern Northern Ireland, where there is a heightened risk of thunderstorms. Elsewhere, showers remain moderate and may persist into the evening. By late in the day, the far southwest could see additional rain or showers.
Temperatures rise a few degrees compared to Monday, making for a rather warm day across much of the UK. Tuesday night sees showers in Northern Ireland gradually fading, while increasing cloud cover in the southwest leads to a developing area of rain. Most other regions enjoy long clear spells, although some cloud drifts into northern and eastern coasts. Fog patches may form in places, and isolated rural frost is possible in northern areas.

Outlook for Wednesday
Wednesday sees southern parts of the UK start the day under mostly cloudy skies, with rain and showers concentrated in the southwest. A few showers may develop further east during the morning and early afternoon, with the possibility of heavier bursts and a low risk of thunder. Conditions improve through the afternoon as the main area of rain clears southward, allowing for sunny spells to emerge.
Further north, the day begins with plenty of sunshine and light winds following a chilly start. However, cloud and patchy light rain are expected to push into the far northeast later in the day. Temperatures remain widely warm, especially away from the cooler and breezier North Sea coasts.
Overall, the midweek weather looks mild and bright for many, with occasional showers and a continued warming trend.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway explains: “The high pressure that has been around for the last few weeks will slowly lose its grip on the UK this week, bringing a change to more unsettled conditions with many areas seeing rain or showers, ending the prolonged dry spell."
