Met Office daily weather for May 30
As we head into the final days of May and the start of meteorological summer, the weather is set to bring a mix of sunshine, showers, and warmth, with some areas seeing a notable rise in temperatures.
Friday begins with rain across northern areas, gradually clearing eastwards through the morning. Central parts of the UK will remain rather cloudy, with occasional patchy rain or drizzle, particularly along western coasts where mist and fog may linger. However, inland areas are likely to see cloud breaking up as the day progresses, giving way to brighter spells.
Elsewhere, expect a mix of sunny intervals and scattered showers, some of which may turn heavy in parts of eastern Scotland. It will be breezy at times, though winds are expected to ease into the evening. Temperatures will be near average for the time of year, but it will feel warm in the east and southeast, where highs could reach 25-26°C, particularly around the London area.

Rather gloomy across central England and Wales with rain and drizzle spreading eastwards over higher ground☔️

Showers in the north will gradually fade, allowing for some clear spells. However, a new band of wind and rain will begin to approach the far northwest later in the night. Further south, areas such as Wales, southwest England, and the Midlands may see light rain or drizzle under low cloud, while other regions remain dry with variable cloud cover. It will be a mild night for most.
Outlook for Saturday
Saturday starts dry for many, but a band of rain, initially squally with a risk of thunder, will push into northwestern areas by dawn. Some showery outbreaks may develop ahead of this, though much of the south and east is likely to remain dry for much of the day.
As the rain moves eastwards across northern areas, it will break up into heavy showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. A brief drier spell may follow, before further showers reach Northern Ireland and western Scotland by evening. It will be warm or very warm in the south and east, with highs of 27-28°C possible locally. Cooler conditions will return overnight, with a risk of grass frost in sheltered glens.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Burkill, said: "Looking at the picture first thing and there are some outbreaks of rain around for some of us, particularly across parts of northern Scotland. Here we have some heavy bursts of rain, but a lot of that is going to fizzle out and clear away towards the east quite quickly this morning. And then across north-northwestern Scotland, a good deal of fine sunny weather on offer as we head into the afternoon. A bit further south across Northern Ireland, southern parts of Scotland, a mixture of sunny spells but also a fair few showers, and worth watching out because some of them could be a bit on the heavy side.
"Further south, still across parts of the North Midlands into Wales, there's going to be a lingering decaying front, so more cloud here, some grey skies, could even get a bit of drizzly rain, especially over higher ground. And then further south still, it's looking largely fine, good deal of dry sunny weather on offer. In fact, the best of the sunshine looks like it will be across parts of the far southeast in Kent. It's looking set to be a lovely day.
"We do have some pretty warm air across us at that moment, it's quite humid out there, and we're seeing temperatures rising. We're likely to get to highs of around 24, maybe even 25°C towards the south and southeast. And even further north, a few degrees fresher than this, but many places, especially to the east of any higher ground where you get the best of the sunshine, a bit more shelter from the brisk breeze, we're looking at temperatures peaking in the high teens, if not low 20s.

"As we go through this evening, there will still be a few showers around, a bit more cloud, a bit more rain for a time across parts of central areas, but all that is likely to clear away. The winds should drop out for a time as well, so a drier, calmer spell. But then another system is going to come in from the west, so the winds are going to strengthen again from the west as we go through the early hours of tomorrow morning, and there will be some rain for some of us as well.
"Further east, particularly across central, eastern parts of England, maybe eastern Scotland, some clearer skies, so perhaps a touch fresher than last night, a few degree fresher perhaps, but still relatively mild for many of us first thing on Saturday morning. And worth bearing in mind there could be some low cloud, some mist and murkiness around some coastal parts towards the west, southwest in particular, and some of this could linger through much of the day.
"Otherwise, and through Saturday, a northwest-southeast split, southeastern parts having the best of the drier, brighter, sunnier weather. Further north and west, it's going to be blustery at times, and there'll be some squally bands of rain pushing their way through. So, outbreaks of rain at times, which could be a bit heavy here and there, but some drier weather for sure, but also the risk of a little bit of rain pushing through, and it could be a bit heavy at times. Now we have even higher temperatures forecast for tomorrow. We're looking at highs of around 24, 25, maybe 26 or 27°C towards the southeast. And even further north, a greater chance of getting into the low 20s."
