Met Office daily weather: Warm sunshine and light winds make a pleasant start to the weekend
The weather across the UK on Friday and Saturday is set to bring a spell of warmth and sunshine, with only a few areas seeing cloudier skies or light rain.
Friday will begin with some early mist, fog patches, and low cloud, particularly in sheltered areas. However, these will quickly clear to reveal a fine and dry day for most. Sunshine will dominate, especially across central and eastern regions, where temperatures are expected to climb significantly compared to Thursday. Highs will widely reach the high teens to low 20s Celsius, with the warmest conditions likely in the East and Northeast. These temperatures are above average for the time of year, making it feel like an early taste of summer.
Winds will be breezy in the far northwest and southeast, but elsewhere conditions will remain calm and pleasant. The combination of sunshine and warmth will make for ideal conditions for outdoor activities, though UV levels may be high, so sun protection is advised.
High pressure has been dominating our weather lately

But a new player will emerge towards the end of this week as low pressure tries to return

Friday night will stay dry for most, with long clear spells allowing temperatures to drop. Isolated mist or fog patches may form again in rural areas, and there is a slight chance of a touch of frost in colder spots. The far northwest may see increasing cloud cover overnight, with the Outer Hebrides at risk of patchy rain or drizzle by dawn. Winds will remain breezy in the northwest.
Saturday continues the settled theme for much of the country. Most areas will enjoy another dry and sunny day, though it will start cold in places with isolated frost. The far north and northwest will be cloudier at times, with occasional light rain or drizzle, particularly across the Western Isles and Shetland. Later in the day, the far southwest may also see thicker cloud and the chance of an isolated shower.
Winds will be light to moderate, though locally fresh along some southern and northern coasts. Daytime temperatures will again be rather warm or warm, making for another pleasant spring day.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Burkill, said: "High pressure sticking around for the time being, bringing a lot of dry, settled, often sunny weather. That being said, the air around is not especially warm, so we have had some chilly nights, and we could see a few more chilly nights to come, perhaps a touch of frost in some rural spots. Maybe a few pockets of mist and fog here and there.
“However, as that high pressure drifts away towards the east, we are going to see a couple of things. The wind direction, where we’re getting our air from, that’s changing and is going to lead to a slight rise in our temperatures as we go into the weekend.
“With the high drifting away towards the east, we are going to see a front trying to push its way in from the northwest. If we look at Saturday, that front isn’t expected to make a huge amount of progress, it may just fringe the far northwest of Scotland. I think it’s likely to stay just to the northwest.
“Otherwise, across the bulk of England and Wales, a decent dry and often sunny day, and in that sunshine it’s going to feel pretty warm. Temperatures peaking in the low possibly mid-twenties.”
