Weather 'not ideal' for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend
Festivalgoers in Liverpool should prep for all seasons as BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend comes with a varied weather forecast.
As thousands of music lovers descend on Sefton Park for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, the weather in Liverpool is set to deliver a varied mix of sunshine, showers, and gusty winds, making it essential for festivalgoers to come prepared for all conditions.
Friday offers the most settled weather of the weekend. After a chilly start, the day will begin with clear skies and plenty of sunshine. As the day progresses, cloud cover will increase from the west, with mostly light winds but these are expected to pick up later in the day. Temperatures will climb into the low 20s Celsius, making for a warm and pleasant start to the festival.
It’s not quite summer yet!

Saturday brings more unsettled conditions. The day will be mostly cloudy and breezy, with rain and showers expected at intervals. While there will be some drier spells, particularly in eastern areas, Liverpool is likely to see periods of rainfall throughout the day. A heavier spell of rain is possible later, followed by blustery showers. Winds will strengthen, with the potential for coastal gales in northwestern areas. Despite the damp conditions, temperatures will remain near average, with a humid feel in sheltered spots.
Sunday continues the unsettled trend. A band of heavier rain is expected to clear southeastwards during the morning, followed by brighter spells and scattered blustery showers. Some of these showers could be heavy, particularly in the northwest, with a risk of thunder. Liverpool may enjoy some dry and sunny intervals later in the day, though it will remain windy. Temperatures will be around average, but the wind and showers may make it feel cooler.
Festivalgoers should also be mindful of ground conditions at Sefton Park. As an outdoor venue with large grassed areas and uneven terrain, wet weather could lead to muddy or waterlogged patches. Waterproof footwear and layered clothing are highly recommended.

Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Burkill, said: "Friday is going to be pretty fresh, pretty chilly for quite a few places. We could even have a touch of frost when we wake up on Friday morning. Most built-up areas are going to hold up several degrees above freezing. But there is the potential for a touch of frost first thing on Friday morning. Not great news for gardeners, especially with all the dry weather, albeit there is some rain to come through the next week or so.
"In eastern parts, still a bit of a chilly start for Saturday morning, thereafter we see our temperatures rising.
"We are going to see some more changeable, unsettled weather pushing its way through as we go through this long weekend, particularly Saturday into Sunday. Likely to see a weather front marching its way across the country. And so there will be some wet weather in association with this.
"Saturday and overnight into Sunday, most places will see some wet, blustery weather pushing its way in. Now eastern, southeastern parts likely to see that rain arriving a little bit later, so could have a largely dry day on Saturday, the rain not really arriving until Sunday.
"Meanwhile, further north and west, greater chance you have of some heavier rain and also some stronger, blustery winds. Radio One's One Big Weekend's is happening in Liverpool this weekend. It's a bit of a shame after we've had so much dry weather recently for us now to have something a bit wetter in time for that. Not ideal, but I'm sure if you are going, you'll be able to make the most of it and enjoy all the various acts."
