Met Office daily weather: Dry and warm on Wednesday, turning more unsettled by Thursday
It will be dry and warm for many on Wednesday, turning more unsettled by Thursday
A largely dry and fine day is expected across much of the UK on Wednesday, with sunny spells developing widely. However, a few afternoon showers are likely to break out, particularly across eastern Scotland and eastern England. These may be moderate in intensity at times, especially from late morning through mid-afternoon.
Cloud will gradually thicken from the west, with outbreaks of mainly light rain arriving across Northern Ireland by early afternoon. This rain will extend into other western areas, including western Scotland and parts of Wales, by the end of the day.
Temperatures will be around average for the time of year, though locally warm in sunnier southern regions. Highs of 21 to 23°C are expected in Northern Ireland, 23 to 24°C in eastern and southern Scotland, and 23 to 25°C across much of England and eastern or southeastern Wales. Some southern areas may locally reach 26°C.

Cloud and occasional rain or showers will continue across northwestern areas, gradually spreading erratically east and south overnight. However, eastern England is likely to remain dry throughout. It will be a mild night in the north and locally warm in the south, with overnight temperatures trending above average.
Outlook for Thursday
Thursday will bring more unsettled conditions across the UK. It will often be rather cloudy, with outbreaks of rain moving south-eastwards through the day. This rain will tend to fragment into more showery conditions as it progresses, with some of these showers turning heavy and possibly thundery, particularly across parts of southern and eastern England and perhaps southeastern Scotland.
Western and northwestern areas will become drier later in the day, with some bright or sunny intervals developing. Winds will be light to moderate throughout, and temperatures will remain near average. However, it may feel rather humid in the south, especially during and after any showers.

Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Burkill, said: “On Wednesday there are going to be a few showers dotted around. They're quite scattered though. So many places avoiding them, many places having a generally dry day. You do need to factor in that some of the showers could be a bit heavy at times across eastern parts of England. But further west, the showers will break up and clear away.
“And so across western Scotland, western parts of England and Wales, it’ll be largely fine, largely sunny as we go through into the afternoon. Slightly different story across Northern Ireland. There will be a spell of rain pushing through as we go through the day. Won’t be particularly heavy, won’t last particularly long. And then behind it, something a bit brighter perhaps, but cloudier, wet weather waiting to come in from the west all the time because, whilst there is high pressure to the southwest of us, frontal systems will still be toppling over the north of this.

“Now, temperatures on Wednesday are going to be a little bit higher than through today. We’re looking at more places getting into the low to mid 20s, 24°C, 25°C perhaps. Particularly feeling warm across those western areas where we see that sunshine developing as we go through into the afternoon. Later on, as we go through the rest of the week, it’s staying quite changeable. Now, changeable doesn’t mean a total washout. Not at all. There will be some dry, warm weather around and it is going to be quite humid at times, too. And with that, then there’s also the potential of some showers. And because of the humidity and the warmth, there’s the potential that some of those showers could turn thundery.”
