Met Office weather: The start of the week brings a mixed pattern for many
A mixed pattern is set to continue during the start of the week
Monday will begin on a fairly settled note for many. After a chilly start, with a few mist and fog patches in places, most areas will see a dry morning with some brightness. Any early fog should lift quickly, allowing clearer conditions to develop.
As the day goes on, showers will develop across northern and eastern parts of the UK. These are expected to become more widespread through the afternoon, pushing gradually further west and southwest. Some of the showers could be locally heavy, especially in exposed eastern areas. In contrast, much of the southwest of England and Northern Ireland is likely to remain largely dry for much of the day.
Winds will generally be light at first, but will start to strengthen later across the far southwest. Temperatures will be close to, or slightly below, the seasonal average, so it may feel cool at times, particularly where showers occur.

Into Monday night, showers across northern and eastern regions will slowly fade. Elsewhere it should be mostly dry with variable cloud and some clearer spells, especially in the south and west.
Outlook for Tuesday
Tuesday will start more grey across parts of northern and eastern areas, where cloud, along with some light rain or drizzle, will linger for a time. This will gradually clear away westwards during the morning while weakening.
Away from these cloudier areas, many parts of the UK can expect a drier and brighter day. Sunny spells should develop widely, though the sunshine may be a little hazy at times in the southwest, where it will also feel breezier.
Temperatures are expected to be near average for the time of year, with lighter winds and sunshine making it feel more pleasant than on Monday in many places. Later in the evening and overnight, clearer skies and light winds may allow temperatures to dip, bringing a chilly end to the day in rural areas.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Honor Criswick, said: “It’s a fairly chilly start this Monday morning, but mostly dry and bright for many areas. Through the day, some cloud will bubble up and this could become thick enough to produce some showers. Conditions will be more unsettled across Scotland, with some longer spells of rain pushing south-westwards at times. Elsewhere, parts of northern and central England, the southeast and Wales will also see showers developing through the afternoon.

“Further south and across Northern Ireland, it’s another largely dry afternoon with the return of some sunshine, and it will still feel rather pleasant in the sunshine here. Highs will reach around 15°C in the far south, though it will be a little chillier along North Sea coasts, where temperatures will only reach around 10 to 11°C.
“Into the evening and overnight, some rain and showers will continue for a time. Any rain across Scotland will turn lighter and patchier, with showers at times joining together to bring longer spells of rain across parts of Scotland and northern England. Elsewhere, showers will be more scattered, with clearer spells in between. In sheltered rural spots, temperatures could dip close to freezing, allowing a touch of frost, but most towns and cities will stay in the mid-single figures.
“On Tuesday morning there may still be a few showers around, but an easterly wind will start to pick up. This should push showers away from the west, and by the afternoon it will be mostly dry with a return of some sunshine. However, that easterly breeze will make it feel cooler, especially in eastern areas. Despite similar temperatures in the south, it will feel a bit cooler overall on Tuesday, though still mostly pleasant in the sunshine in more sheltered spots.”
