Friday brings a largely fine day across England and Wales, with widespread sunshine developing through the morning and lasting into the afternoon. Some coastal areas in the west may see patchy mist or fog lingering, but this should have limited impact on inland conditions.

Further north and west, it will be a different picture. Northern Ireland and Scotland will see more cloud overall, although there will still be some brighter intervals. Rain will be mostly confined to western and north-western Scotland during the day, but it may become more widespread from the west later on.

Temperatures will be widely warm, with the highest values in eastern and south-eastern parts of England where it will turn hot by the afternoon.

Overnight, outbreaks of rain across northern areas will gradually clear eastwards. Elsewhere, conditions will remain largely dry, although there is a small chance of a thundery shower in parts of the east and south-east. Some low cloud and mist may develop along western and south-western coasts. Temperatures will stay mild for most, with particularly warm conditions lingering in the south-east.

Outlook for Saturday

Saturday sees high pressure more firmly in control for much of the UK, bringing another day of largely sunny and settled weather. Many central and southern areas will enjoy long spells of sunshine from the start, continuing into the afternoon.

However, cloudier conditions persist across north-west Scotland, Northern Ireland and some coasts bordering the Irish Sea. Here, patchy rain or drizzle is possible at times, especially through the day.

There is also a small chance of a few early, short-lived thundery showers across parts of south-east England, but these are expected to move through quickly.

Winds will generally be light, although they may be moderate in the north-west. Temperatures will remain warm or very warm for most, with hot conditions again developing in the south-east. As on Friday, some coastal areas will feel cooler where onshore breezes develop.

Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Aidan McGivern, said: “Friday starts warmer than recent days, with temperatures rising quickly in sunshine across central and eastern England. Further north and west, it will be cloudier, with thicker cloud bringing occasional light rain or drizzle to western coasts, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“Temperatures will still be widely warm, reaching the high teens to low 20s, and climbing into the mid to high 20s in central and eastern England, with 28–29°C possible in the south-east.

“Friday night sees clear spells for many, though a brief thundery shower may develop across central and southern areas before clearing quickly. The northwest remains cloudier with patchy drizzle. Overnight temperatures stay mild, with lows around 16–17°C in places.

“By Saturday, any early cloud will clear to leave widespread sunshine across England and Wales. Some coastal mist may linger in the west, while Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England remain cloudier but mostly dry.

“Temperatures will be widely in the low to mid 20s, with the south-east reaching around 30°C. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be cooler, with highs in the high teens to low 20s.”
