Headline:

Fine for many on Sunday, though showery in the southeast.

Today:

Most areas will have a dry and settled day on Sunday with plenty of sunshine, especially during the morning. However, the east and more especially southeast of England will see showery rain and breezy weather, some of the showers heavy.

Tonight:

Cloud and showery rain will extend westwards to affect much of England and Wales overnight, the rain locally heavy. Scotland and Northern Ireland will have clear periods and some frost.

Monday:

Rain will move from England and Wales into Northern Ireland, southern and eastern Scotland on Monday. Brighter skies following into the south, and mostly sunny across northern and western Scotland.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

A generally more unsettled period of weather is likely during Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Often cloudy with outbreaks of rain, some heavy. Perhaps turning very windy later. Temperatures around average.

A changeable if not unsettled spell of weather will affect the UK through most if not all this period, with spells of wet and windy weather arriving from the Atlantic followed by drier though still showery interludes. It is possible that stormy weather may also develop at times. However, there is a chance that higher pressure may build near the UK again around the end of October, bringing a quieter spell of weather for a time. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little above normal overall, with mild spells likely at times, especially towards the south. In between frontal systems, and if pressure does build at the end of the period, colder nights are possible, with a touch of frost.

This period is highly uncertain, more so than normal, but overall it seems more likely than not that the UK weather will be dominated by westerly or southwesterly winds from the Atlantic during this period, with areas of potentially deep low pressure often affecting the UK at times. This will result in spells of wet and windy weather followed by drier but still showery interludes. Stormy conditions are also possible at times. High pressure may attempt to build across the country at times, this perhaps more likely early in the period, but any settled spells are likely to be short-lived. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little above average overall.
