There’s changeable weather ahead for the UK, with a thunderstorm warning in place for southern parts of England tomorrow (Thursday) and wet and windy conditions possible from Monday.
Tonight (Wednesday evening), most places will be cloudy, with outbreaks of rain across the north and west pushing eastwards overnight.
Tomorrow (Thursday) brings further unsettled conditions with rain turning more showery through the morning. Parts of southern, southeastern, and eastern England may see heavy showers and thunderstorms. A Yellow Severe Weather Warning for thunderstorms has been issued.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page said: “A low-pressure system moving in from the Atlantic will bring thunderstorms and heavy showers during Thursday morning and through the afternoon. This is mainly expected to affect southern parts of England and could produce torrential downpours in a few places, with as much as 25–35 mm of rain falling within an hour and perhaps 60 mm within two hours. Frequent lightning and hail will be additional hazards.
“By Thursday night, the thunderstorms in the south of England are expected to ease, leaving behind largely dry and fine conditions. Temperatures will be cooler than recent nights, particularly away from the southeast.”
Friday continues the showery theme, with a risk of heavy showers across eastern England, and a few showers in northern and northeastern Scotland. Many places in the west and southwest of the UK are likely to stay dry with some sunny spells. Breezy conditions are expected, and daytime temperatures will be near or slightly below average.
Weekend weather outlook
Saturday looks more settled, with most areas enjoying a fine day and temperatures around average. While the chance of a shower can’t be ruled out, it’s expected to be minimal.
Sunday will see rain — some of it heavy — moving southeast across the UK, particularly affecting northwestern areas, with a chance of some heavy showers as it clears. However, conditions will brighten up behind the rain, with a dry afternoon developing for many western areas.
Potential for wet and windy weather from Monday
Looking ahead to early next week, there is the potential for some stormy conditions, as Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Hicks explains: “From Monday, there’s the potential for an unseasonably deep area of low pressure to sweep across the UK. This could bring wet and windy conditions in some locations, although the exact track and depth of the low — and whether this stormy scenario will be realised — is still uncertain at this point.
