Our charity partnership with the British Red Cross

Every three years the Met Office selects a new charity partner. These partnerships reflect our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, aligning with our organisational mission and values.

As well as a commitment to fundraising, our chosen charity also receives other benefits. Over the years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with several remarkable charity partners, including The Wildlife Trusts, Surfers Against Sewage, RNLI, WaterAid, and ShelterBox. Each partnership has brought unique opportunities for engagement and impact.

In 2025, our staff selected the British Red Cross as our official new charity partner.

Our partnership with the British Red Cross

We are proud to have the British Red Cross as our charity partner, bringing together two organisations committed to helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

This multiyear collaboration, running from 1 October 2025 to 31 August 2028, strengthens our shared mission to enhance community resilience in the face of increasing humanitarian and climate-related risks. It reflects our core values of being a force for good and working better together, while aligning closely with the British Red Cross’ long-established humanitarian principles.

Why this partnership matters

Climate science shows that the UK is already experiencing more frequent and intense extreme weather, including heatwaves and episodes of heavy rainfall. These changes create heightened humanitarian risks such as flooding and water damage, heat-related health impacts, and disruption to communities and essential services.

By combining our world-leading weather and climate intelligence with the British Red Cross’ extensive volunteer network and humanitarian expertise, our partnership aims to strengthen community preparedness and help people better withstand and recover from such events.
