The Met Office outlook for the global average temperature in 2026 suggests an extension of the run of years with a value above 1.4°C, compared to pre-industrial levels.

The weather will remain unsettled through to the end of the week, with yellow weather warnings for rain in place.

This year has already been the sunniest year on record for the UK, according to provisional Met Office statistics.

Low-pressure systems will bring further unsettled weather to the UK this week, with fog and heavy rain on the horizon.
