AI and Met Office people
The nature of work, the workplace and the workforce are changing.
Ensuring the Met Office has the capabilities it needs to deliver its purpose and achieve its ambition and vision for the application of data science is only possible though our continued investment in people and culture – attracting, retaining, inspiring and developing the best and brightest talent, and fostering a vibrant, interesting, empowering and challenging environment that makes the organisation a great place to work for all.
As well as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for how we predict the weather or project the climate, alongside our physical models, AI has the potential to fundamentally evolve the way of working for all our people; ensuring the Met Office remains fit for the demands of today and the future.
We continue to provide opportunities for staff development and training through both in-house courses and those provided by partners, with the deployment of AI tools such as Microsoft CoPilot and GitHub CoPilot across the organisation already.
Supported by these new technologies, operational meteorologists will continue to be an integral and important component of the forecast and warnings process, using their expert knowledge where it counts, delivering trusted weather and climate intelligence to our customers and the communities we serve.
