Met Office daily weather: Shifting skies and varied temperatures
The UK is set to experiences a dynamic mix of weather to start off the week, with shifting skies, scattered showers, and varied temperatures across the country.
On Monday, cloud dominates the morning across northern and northeastern areas, bringing patches of drizzle. A central band of the country could see isolated showers, but as the day progresses, cloud cover breaks to reveal sunny spells. These brighter conditions are short-lived in some areas as those scattered showers redevelop, with a few turning heavy and even thundery in isolated spots. Temperatures drop significantly in parts of northern England and Wales, where highs only reach the mid-to-high teens. In contrast, the far north and southeast enjoy warmer conditions, with temperatures potentially climbing into the low 20s.
By evening, most showers and isolated thunderstorms over northwest England, southwest Scotland, and Wales begin to fade. However, a few showers persist, particularly in Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, skies clear, though low cloud settles over parts of the north and east.

Outlook for Tuesday
Into Tuesday, low cloud could linger along eastern coasts in the morning but will most likely fail to push too far inland due to lighter winds. As the day unfolds, the cloud will retreat to the coast, giving way to scattered showers. The heaviest of these, with a risk of thunderstorms, will develop over southern and southwestern Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, showers should remain moderate but linger into the evening, with the far southwest potentially seeing more rain by nightfall.
Temperatures will likely be higher than Monday, with many areas warming by a few degrees. Southern regions and sheltered parts of Scotland see highs approaching the mid-20s. During the night, showers in Northern Ireland fade, while increasing cloud in the southwest will lead to a developing area of rain. Most other regions enjoy long clear spells, though some cloud drifts into northern and eastern coasts. Isolated fog patches could form, and rural areas in the north may even experience a touch of frost.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Kathryn Chalk said: "There is a bit of a change in the forecast this week. We'll see some welcome showers before something a bit more changeable as we head into next weekend. But through this morning, a bit of a messy picture, there’s quite a lot of cloud. Also some showers across parts of Wales, but they'll generally ease as we go through the afternoon for a time.
"There’ll be cloudier skies across northern parts of England, Northern Ireland, and southern Scotland. And, as we go through the afternoon, some showers will bubble up, some of them on the heavy side, perhaps even with the odd rumble of thunder.
"We’re still holding on to some low cloud across eastern parts of Scotland and northeastern England. But across much of East Anglia and the southeast, dry with plenty of sunny spells. And that's where we'll see the highest temperatures, around 21, 22°C, so feeling warmer here.

"But compared towards the west, a cooler feeling day to come. We'll see highs 17 or 18 degrees, but with the cloud and the heavy downpours, it will be just generally feeling cooler than that of the weekend. As we go through the rest of Monday evening, we'll see the swirl of clouds and showers generally easing for most of us. There may just be a few that still linger. But once that land cools, we'll again see the return of this low cloud feeding in from the North Sea.
"Many of us will be seeing a good deal of sunshine first thing on Tuesday. But, once the sun gets going, we'll see showers bubbling up, and some of these could be onvthe heavy side, especially across Northern Ireland, parts of Wales, northern England, and perhaps even towards the south and west.
"However, not everywhere is going to see these showers, so do stay tuned to the forecast. Best of the sunshine across Scotland and again towards the far south and east. Still chilly along those eastern coasts, but elsewhere highs of up to 21 or 22 degrees."
