Met Office weather for final fixtures of 24/25 season

The day will begin with a band of rain moving eastwards, bringing heavy downpours in the early hours. However, this will clear relatively quickly, making way for a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers. While southern and eastern parts of the country may enjoy drier and warmer conditions, the north and west are likely to see more unsettled weather.

Showers will be most frequent and intense across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England,  areas where hail and thunder are possible. This could impact matches such as Newcastle United versus Everton and Manchester United versus Aston Villa, where fans and players alike should prepare for sudden downpours and gusty winds.

Winds will remain moderate to fresh across much of the UK, with stronger gusts expected along coastal areas and a risk of gales in the north. These breezy conditions may affect games in coastal cities like Southampton, where Arsenal are set to play.

Strong winds are expected across parts of the north and northwest on Sunday and into Monday, with a risk of coastal gales. While not severe enough to trigger weather warnings, these conditions could still impact travel to and from matches such as Liverpool versus Crystal Palace and Manchester United versus Aston Villa.

Temperatures will start off mild but are expected to settle near seasonal norms. The northwest may feel rather cold, especially in exposed areas, while the southeast,  including London, where Fulham host Manchester City and Tottenham face Brighton,  could remain relatively warm and pleasant.

Overall, while the weather won’t be a complete washout, fans attending the final fixtures of the season should come prepared for changeable conditions, waterproofs and layers are advisable.

Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Deakin, said: "We will see some gusty conditions during the early hours of Sunday across the northwest of Scotland. Quite a blustery morning there, nothing exceptional, but unusual for the time of year.

“So, blustery in the northwest, a breezy day everywhere. There’ll be showers in most places as well, but there will also be some sunshine, and parts of the south and the east may not see too many showers. Good chunk of England and Wales may actually be largely dry through Sunday afternoon, and in the sunny spells across the southeast, where the winds will be lightest, it'll feel reasonably pleasant. We could see highs of 20 or 21°C."
