Met Office daily weather: A fine day for most, but showers in the southeast
A fresh, chilly start for many on Tuesday, with showers and winds across east and southeast England.
After a chilly start to the day, most parts of the UK can expect a fine Tuesday with sunny spells and some patchy cloud. However, eastern and southeastern areas, particularly Kent, will see a different story. Here, showers are likely to develop, some of which could be locally heavy and frequent at times. The Northern Isles may also experience a few light showers, but these will be less significant.
It will feel breezy in the far southeast, adding a slight chill to the air. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average, though some areas may feel rather cool, especially where cloud cover is limited and winds are brisk.

As we move into Tuesday night, many places will enjoy dry conditions with long clear spells. Showers will continue to affect the far southeast, remaining locally heavy across Kent at first, but these will become lighter and more isolated as the night progresses. A few showers may drift onshore across eastern areas as well. With clear skies, rural areas in the north and west are at risk of grass frost and even some localised air frost.
Outlook for Wednesday
Wednesday begins on a sunny but chilly note for many western and central areas, with any pockets of mist or fog quickly clearing. In contrast, eastern, southeastern, and central England will see more cloud to start the day, accompanied by a few light showers. Through the day, cloud will build more generally, increasing the risk of a few showers, though these will tend to fade by evening.
There is a small chance that thicker cloud could bring some light rain to the Hebrides. Winds will be light and variable for most, though may be moderate to locally fresh in the far southeast and extreme northwest. Temperatures will remain near average for the time of year.
Chilly nights are still expected at first, with grass and localised air frost likely, though this risk will diminish as cloud cover increases later in the period. Daytime temperatures will continue to trend around average for late September.

Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Burkill, said: “A fresh and chilly start to the day for many of us on Tuesday. Then, as we go through the day itself, more showery bursts across parts of east-southeastern England and the winds will be strengthening here as we go through the day.
“We’re also going to see a bit more cloud coming in from the east. So, although it's a largely sunny morning, as we go through the afternoon across England and Wales, we are going to see things turning quite a bit cloudier. That being said, across the far south of Wales and also maybe Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, clinging on to the sunshine for a little bit longer. For Scotland and Northern Ireland, well, maybe a bit more in the way of sunshine compared to today. There will be some cloud around, but some brighter or sunny breaks developing. Now, temperatures are going to be a little bit on the low side for the time of year. We're looking at mid-teens quite widely and with more cloud as we go through the afternoon across England and Wales compared to Monday, it's probably going to feel a bit fresher."
