Met Office daily weather: A changeable end to the week with some warmth
The latest forecast shows a mixed picture for the end of the week
Friday will bring a mixed picture across the UK. A broad zone of cloud will stretch from west Wales through northern England and into the far south of Scotland, with pulses of rain moving north-eastwards through the day. Some of this rain may be heavy at times, particularly in areas exposed to the prevailing winds.
To the north and south of this rain band, conditions will be mainly dry, with some sunshine breaking through, especially to the lee of high ground. However, far northern and northwestern Scotland can expect blustery showers later in the day. The southeast will stand out for its warmth, with temperatures climbing to 25-26°C, with 27°C a possibility in some areas.

As we move into Friday night, the band of cloud and rain will persist across west Wales and northern England, perhaps edging into the far southwest of England by the early hours. Much of the north and south will remain dry, though there is a continued risk of showers or longer spells of rain in northern Scotland. The far southeast may also see some rain towards the end of the night.
Temperatures will remain warm across most of England and Wales, while a chillier night is expected northwest of the front, particularly across Scotland and Northern Ireland, where rural grass frost is possible.
Outlook for Saturday
Saturday will be fairly cloudy, with light rain or showers in the far northwest, becoming increasingly windy with gales developing later. The southeast will remain mostly fine and rather mild, though there is a small chance of a few thunderstorms during the day. Between these two zones, a band of rain, heavy and possibly thundery in places, will expand north-eastwards, accompanied by strong winds and the likelihood of gales in exposed areas.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Burkill, said: “On Friday we wake up with four zones of weather. Some wet weather across the far north of Scotland, but this clears away and some more wet weather lingering. That front lingers across parts of northern England into parts of northern Wales through much of the day and could actually pep up a little bit more as we go through into the afternoon.

“In the other two zones across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland, a good deal of fine, bright, sunny weather and more sunshine also across central, southern, and south-eastern parts of England and Wales. That’s where we get that decent sunshine. And it's going to be even warmer than Wednesday. We're looking at highs around London and up towards East Anglia reaching 26-27°C. It's also going to feel pretty humid with that as well.
“Elsewhere, temperatures not as high and obviously where we get the rain, it's going to feel several degrees cooler than those highs up in the mid, possibly even high 20s. Then later on, more wet weather across parts of northern England into northern and western parts of Wales. That rain turning a bit heavier and that rain may start to fringe into parts of southwest England as we go overnight Friday into Saturday as well.
“Otherwise, staying largely dry, but this front continues to linger here as we go into the weekend. So we do have more heavy rain to come and it could also turn quite thundery. We do have warnings out because of the potential for impacts from the wet weather, and also watch out for some strong winds particularly on Saturday. Gales, maybe even severe gales in exposed spots.
“Now, whilst Friday’s likely to be the warmest day, we cling on to something warm for Saturday, but as the unsettled weather clears away as we go through Sunday, we're also going to see the warmer weather clearing away as well. So, temperatures will be dropping as we go through this weekend.”
