Regulated observer training

Weather forecasts help airlines to plan efficient operations

The Met Office is a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved provider of aviation observer training. As the UK Meteorology Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority contracts the Met Office to train all airfield observers and deliver comprehensive aviation meteorological training.

The training offered by the Met Office is up to date and relevant and trains observers to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements. Our training is focused and intense, so staff are not removed from their operational duties for longer than necessary.

Training is available specifically for meteorological observers working in air traffic control or offshore helicopter operations, with a variety of courses available to meet the specific requirements of these varied environments.
