Atmospheric dispersion and air quality scientists

Matt leads the Atmospheric Dispersion and Air Quality Team, which investigates the transport, dispersion and chemistry of substances released into the atmosphere.

    Paul manages the Air Quality and Composition team which is responsible for developing the AQUM model and delivering the operational air quality forecast.

  • Charlie Bates

    Charlie specializes in modelling the dispersion of volcanic eruption clouds using the Met Office's Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment (NAME).

  • Dr Frances Beckett

    Frances models the transport of volcanic ash using the Met Office's Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment (NAME).

  • Dr Vivien Bright

    Vivien is a scientist working in air quality and composition utilising the Met Office’s regional air quality modelling system for the UK and European domains.

  • Dr Benjamin Devenish

    Benjamin undertakes research on turbulence and dispersion (particularly in the atmospheric boundary layer), buoyant plumes, and the dispersion of volcanic ash and cloud formation.

  • Dr Ben Drummond

    Ben works on the development and application of numerical atmosphere models to gain a better understanding of atmospheric composition with a focus on air quality.

  • Benjamin Evans

    Benjamin works on the development and validation of the Met Office's Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment (NAME).

  • Lois Huggett

    Lois helps to maintain and improve the Met Office's Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment (NAME).

  • Dr Andrew Jones

    Andrew conducts research in atmospheric dispersion, including development of the Met Office's Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment (NAME).

  • Dr Nina Kristiansen

Nina works with modelling the dispersion of volcanic eruption clouds using the Met Office's atmospheric dispersion model NAME.

  • Dr Susan Leadbetter

    Susan works on the application of dispersion modelling to emergency response situations.

  • Dr Florent Malavelle

    Florent Malavelle is a senior scientist in the Air Quality and Composition team and is contributing to the development of the Met Office models used to create the air quality forecast.

  • Sarah Millington

    Sarah leads the Radiological and Biological team in the Atmospheric Dispersion and Air Quality group.

  • Lucy Neal

    Lucy develops and uses the AQUM model for forecasting regional air quality.

  • Noel Nelson

Noel manages the Air Quality Impacts team, a mix of air quality scientists and software engineers. The team is responsible for delivering components of the Strategic Priority Funded Clean Air Programme to improve air quality.
