WISER Africa co-production fellowship
Are you an early career researcher or professional based in East, West, or Southern Africa, with a strong interest in the transdisciplinary co-production of weather and climate services?
Apply now for the Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa co-production fellowship, funded by the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Africa Regional Climate and Nature (ARCAN) programme.
About the fellowship
Three fellowships are being offered through this call — one in each of the following regions: East, West, and Southern Africa. We are seeking talented, early-career professionals with expertise or interest in co-production to serve as co-production champions.
Each fellow will collaborate with local and regional organisations to enhance climate services and support the WISER programme’s goals. Fellows will bridge the gap between research and community-led outcomes and champion innovative co-production practices to enhance climate resilience.
Fellowship objectives
- Provide co-production expertise in their region, supporting Regional Climate Centres and/or National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.
- Engage with stakeholders to co-design priorities that inform future climate-focused development funding.
- Conduct research on co-production, stakeholder engagement, indigenous knowledge, or communication strategies.
- Contribute to WISER-wide learning on co-production practices.
- Fellows will receive support from regional and international co-production experts, including training and peer learning sessions across all three regions.
Regional fellowship details
Applicants must be nationals of an eligible African country listed in the call. Fellows may remain at their current institution, provided it is located in a WISER-supported country and meets the necessary due diligence and eligible host institution requirements. Applicants without a current institutional affiliation must confirm hosting arrangements prior to applying.
Eligible host institutions must have a primary focus on conducting fundamental and/or applied research and on disseminating results through teaching, publication, or practical application. This includes universities and recognised research institutes. Privately funded entities and limited companies are not eligible, nor are organisations whose core mission is not research (e.g. those with only a small research unit as part of a broader non-research agenda).
