Your feedback has been invaluable in identifying issues to fix and improvements to make. Since the launch of MAVIS on 24 March 2026, we've made various enhancements including:
- Expanded side panel and removal of TAF/METAR badges to increase the space available for viewing TAFs, METARs and Warnings
- Amendments and corrections to TAFs/METARs now shown in bold text and underlined
- New cloud base layer showing data at 500ft intervals at ground level
- Default base selection and tailored reports available to Offshore & SAR Helicopter Operators
- Renaming of Civilian Colour States to Visibility/Cloud Base Indicators
- Three new balloon sites added, and improvements made to the ballooning site-specific forecast table
- Improved printing functionality for ballooning forecasts and briefing packs
- MAVIS updates link added to the side menu to keep users informed of recent releases to MAVIS
- MAVIS FAQs link added to bottom of side menu
A more comprehensive list of features, fixes and enhancements recently released to MAVIS are described on our Updates page.
The feedback submitted to us by users of the service is reviewed daily and prioritised accordingly. Some items are quick wins and are easier to implement, whereas others require further investigation, testing and consultation with internal Met Office teams, projects, UX professionals and with users directly. As such, they may take longer to deliver.
Our next planned improvements include:
- Satellite map layers – Infrared, Visible & Snow False Colour
- Regional TAF, METAR and Warning lists
- RAG colour coding for the 36hr Aerodrome Table based on default thresholds
- Accessibility remediations
- TAFs for some military sites
- Briefing pack enhancements
MAVIS roadmap
Although MAVIS contains a comprehensive set of products and features available to all users of the service, ongoing development will continue with users seeing new products and features added frequently over time. This will ensure the service can continue to meet the needs of all its users.
The table below represents some of the products and features that are planned for development over the next 6 months. This list is not exhaustive and may change to incorporate user feedback and subsequent priorities from regulatory bodies or commercial partners. Access to these products and features will be dependent on an individual user’s access and permissions.
