Change is once again on the horizon as the arrival of June has brought a noticeable shift in the weather. In this blog entry we take a look at what's to be expected over the next 10 days
After a remarkably sunny and warm spring, June has taken a cooler and more changeable turn. However, that’s all about to shift as we transition from westerly to southerly winds, bringing with them rising temperatures, increasing humidity, and a return to more summer-like conditions.
Thunderstorms incoming
The most immediate change in our weather pattern is the arrival of humid air from the south, combining with an approaching area of low pressure from the west. This mix sets the stage for thunderstorms, with two distinct phases expected over the coming days.
As the system moves northeastwards, heavy showers will spread across England and into southern Scotland. While the northeast of Scotland remains drier, much of the UK will experience breezy conditions, especially in the west.
Where breaks in the rain occur, it will feel warm and humid, with temperatures reaching up to 27 or 28°C in places.

Friday: Peak heat and humidity
Friday marks the peak of this warm spell, with temperatures in the east potentially reaching 29°C which would match the highest temperature of the year so far, recorded on 1 May. Some spots in East Anglia could even touch 30°C.
However, this heat and humidity will fuel the second phase of thunderstorms, likely developing late Friday over northern France and moving into the UK overnight. The southeast, including East Anglia and the southeast of England, is most at risk.
These storms could bring torrential rainfall (over 50mm in a few hours), hail, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. A yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for the areas most likely to be affected.

Weekend: Showers, then settling
Saturday begins with the remnants of Friday night’s storms clearing the southeast, but further heavy rain is expected across central and southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and parts of Wales.
Elsewhere, scattered heavy showers will mix with sunny spells, particularly in the south and southeast. Western Scotland is likely to remain dry with some sunshine.
Temperatures will dip slightly, especially in the west, as cooler Atlantic air returns. Expect highs of 25-26°C in the east, with fresher conditions further west.
By Sunday, the weather begins to settle. While some showery rain may linger in the morning, much of England and Wales will be dry by the afternoon, with patchy cloud and sunshine. Scotland, particularly central and western areas, may still see some persistent rain.
With music festivals across the country kicking off this weekend, the weather looks set to bring sunshine, storms, and everything in between. 💃☀️🕺☔️

Next Week: High pressure builds
Looking ahead to next week, high pressure is expected to build across the south of the UK, pushing the jet stream further north. This will bring more settled and drier conditions for many.
The most likely scenario, supported by multiple computer model runs, is an extension of the Azores High reaching towards the UK. This would keep most rainfall confined to northern and western Scotland, where it may be breezy with occasional heavy rain over hills.
Other similar high-pressure patterns are also possible, all pointing to a generally dry and settled outlook for much of the UK.

Temperature trends
Temperatures are expected to climb steadily through next week, especially in the south, where mid to high 20s are likely. While not a heatwave, it will feel noticeably warmer and more settled than the first half of June.
Northern areas, such as central Scotland, will remain closer to average, though a slight increase is possible towards the end of the week.
In summary, here’s what to expect over the next few days.
- Friday: Peak temperatures and humidity, with severe thunderstorms possible overnight in the southeast.
- Weekend: Showers and heavy rain in the north and west; drier and warmer in the south.
- Next week: High pressure builds, bringing more settled, warmer weather, especially in the south.
