Wimbledon and Glastonbury 2013 weather watch

Wimbledon fortnight is underway and strawberries and sun cream look set to feature in the week ahead.

The Met Office is forecasting a fairly settled first week in SW19, with a good deal of dry weather and only occasional light showers.

Met Office forecasters are stationed at Wimbledon for the duration of the tournament and will use the latest technology to give scientific advice to the referee and ground staff about how conditions may affect play.

As Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Chris Tubbs says: "One of the main challenges for the organising committee and us as forecasters is to try and predict rainfall, because any amount of rain can interfere with the schedule and delay the proceedings. There are other considerations to take into account too like temperature and sunshine amounts."

Spectators and visitors can keep up with latest weather at the championships by visiting our dedicated Wimbledon Wimbledon throughout the fortnight.

This week also sees the 42nd Glastonbury Festival getting underway. Festival goers will start arriving from Wednesday to set up their pitches ahead of the weekend of music.

The good news is that it looks like the weather looks set to be kind to festival goers this year. Met Office forecasters are expecting a largely dry weekend, and festival goers can keep up to date with the latest forecasts on our Glastonbury Festival
