Festival forecast: unsettled start, improving into the weekend

Author: Met Office

Festivalgoers heading out across the UK this week can expect a mixed spell of weather.

Conditions will remain changeable through the middle of the week, with a combination of sunny spells, showers and longer spells of rain, before a gradual improvement brings drier, warmer weather into the weekend.

Download Festival – June 10-14

Those attending Download Festival can expect a notably variable few days, particularly at the start of the event. Early in the period, sunshine will be interspersed with heavy showers, some bringing the risk of hail and thunder. Gusty winds are also likely at times, especially near the heavier downpours, with temperatures feeling on the cool side for June.

Conditions ease overnight, with showers fading to leave clearer spells and lighter winds, allowing temperatures to drop sharply in rural areas.

By Thursday, a more organised spell of rain will spread across the site, turning heavy at times and accompanied by breezy conditions. Despite the rain, it will feel more humid than earlier in the week.

Looking further ahead, Friday brings a mix of cloud and occasional light showers, but improvement follows into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will see drier conditions with sunny spells and lighter winds, alongside a gradual rise in temperatures.

Gottwood Festival – June 11-14

At Gottwood Festival, Thursday is expected to be a wet start, with rain moving across the area and some heavier bursts at times. While conditions become somewhat lighter and more patchy into the afternoon, cloud will remain widespread, maintaining a generally grey and damp feel. Winds will also be noticeable, contributing to a muggy atmosphere despite the rain.

Friday continues with largely cloudy skies and patchy rain, alongside breezy conditions. These factors may make for unsettled conditions underfoot, particularly on exposed festival sites.

A marked improvement is expected over the weekend, however. Drier conditions will develop, with winds easing and warmer air moving in. Sunny spells are likely to emerge, although some low cloud and fog may linger at times, especially near coastal areas.

Moovin Festival – June 12-14

For Moovin Festival, the outlook from Friday through to Sunday broadly mirrors the wider trend across much of the UK. Friday will be dominated by cloud, with patchy rain and a brisk breeze at times, which could impact outdoor activities.

As the weekend progresses, a shift towards higher pressure brings a welcome change in conditions. Rain becomes less likely, winds ease, and temperatures begin to rise. Increasingly frequent sunny spells will help create a more favourable environment for festivalgoers.
