Low pressure remains firmly in control as we head into the weekend.
The latest forecast for this weekend incidcates further spells of rain, blustery winds and temperatures that remain on the cool side for early June.
While there will be some brighter interludes, particularly later in the weekend, conditions are expected to stay changeable across much of the UK.
Outlook for Saturday
Saturday looks like the more unsettled day for many areas, with a complex weather pattern developing as a deep area of low pressure moves close to the UK. Tightly packed isobars suggest a windy start, particularly across southwestern parts, where there is a risk of coastal gales developing for a time.
The morning will bring widespread rain across large parts of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and southern and central Scotland. This rain is likely to be heavy at times, especially across western and southwestern areas, accompanied by strengthening winds.
The far northeast of Scotland may start the day on a drier and brighter note, with some early sunshine possible. However, even here, breezy conditions will persist, and cloud will tend to increase as the day progresses.
As the main band of rain moves through, conditions will turn increasingly showery. These showers could be heavy, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms, particularly across central areas and parts of northern England. Gusty winds may accompany the heaviest downpours, adding to a generally unsettled feel.

Later in the afternoon, there are signs of some improvement in the southwest and Northern Ireland, where winds may ease slightly and a few brighter spells could develop. However, much of the UK will continue to see a mix of sunshine and showers.
Temperatures on Saturday will remain a little below average for the time of year, particularly where strong winds and heavy showers persist. It is likely to feel cool for early June, especially in exposed locations.
Outlook for Sunday
Sunday brings a subtle shift in the weather pattern, although conditions will remain unsettled overall. A further area of low pressure moves in, introducing another spell of wind and rain, but with the focus shifting further north.
Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England are likely to start the day with rain, which may turn heavy at times as winds strengthen through the morning. These wet and windy conditions will gradually spread across northern areas during the day.

In contrast, much of England and Wales is expected to see a drier day compared with Saturday. While there will still be some showers, particularly across western and northern parts, eastern and southeastern areas have a good chance of staying largely dry.
There will also be some sunny intervals, especially in the east and southeast, although skies are likely to remain fairly cloudy at times. Any sunshine will help temperatures edge a little higher than on Saturday.
Temperatures will generally recover closer to the seasonal average, with highs reaching around 21°C in the south and east, while northern areas are more likely to see values in the high teens.
The unsettled pattern shows little sign of easing as we head into the start of next week. Further areas of low pressure are expected to move through, bringing additional spells of rain and blustery conditions at times.
