Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

12:00 on Saturday until 23:00 on Saturday

Heavy, thundery showers on Saturday afternoon and evening have the potential to bring torrential rain, hail and frequent lightning. Be aware of the risk of localised flooding with longer journey times possible as well as some interruption to utilities and services. This is an update to remove the warning from Northern Ireland and parts of southwest and northern Scotland.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Showers are expected to develop early Saturday afternoon over North Wales and the Midlands and then track north or northeastwards during the rest of the day into the evening. Whilst many will miss the worst of the showers some places could see 30 mm of rain in an hour or less along with frequent lightning and hail. There is also the potential for some locally strong winds in association with these.

Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

12:00 on Sunday until 16:00 on Monday

Further areas of heavy rain will spread north-eastward through Sunday and into Monday, with some locally torrential downpours and thunder possible. This could result in some disruption, with sudden flooding of roads, transport routes, homes and businesses possible locally. However, given the hit and miss nature of the heavy rain and thunderstorms, many places will likely see little or no impacts.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Torrential rain and thunderstorms could give as much as 30mm, possibly 40mm in an hour in places. Through Monday the rain and thunderstorms are expected to become confined more to the east of the warning area. Lightning strikes are also possible, which bring a chance of disruption to power.
