Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

15:45 on Thursday until 03:00 on Friday

The warning has been updated to extend it further south and west into South Wales, Devon and Somerset. Areas of rain, locally thundery, are developing across the warning area and will continue during Thursday evening and overnight. The rain will be heavy at times and may lead to some localised disruption. Lightning will be an additional hazard and could also cause some minor disruption.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

The warning has been extended to cater for heavy showers developing across Devon. These will extend north and east into Somerset and South Wales over the next few hours. Heavy rain may lead to localised rainfall accumulations of 20-30 mm in 1-2 hours, with some places perhaps seeing 40-60 mm in 3-6 hours. This may cause some travel disruption during rush hour this evening. The threat of heavy rain will clear eastwards later in the night, clearing western parts of the warning area by around midnight.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
