Rain warning of yellow

Yellow warning of rain

Be aware

11:00 on Tuesday until 08:00 on Wednesday

Outbreaks of rain will affect parts of eastern England through Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday morning. Whilst most parts will miss the worst, there is the risk of locally torrential, thundery bursts. Please be aware of the risk of local surface water flooding.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A front will migrate slowly north up the eastern side of England bringing very moist and unstable air, and an area of rain which is likely to become torrential at times, especially near the coast and windward hills. There are doubts both about how far north it will reach, and how widespread the heaviest bursts will be. However, rainfall totals are likely to be in the region of 15 to 25 mm, but near coasts and windward hills, local totals of more than 50 mm are quite possible. Rain will be accompanied by a blustery, northerly wind.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/
