Bright with scattered showers, still wintry on hills, but a few sunny spells, mostly Lanark and inland Ayrshire. Drier by the afternoon but cloud then thickening with rain and hill snow late afternoon, heavy over Argyll. Strong southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 7C.

Tonight:

Cloudy with rain and hill snow in evening, occasionally heavy with southerly gales. Clearing to blustery showers and a few clear spells early hours of Saturday as winds turn southwesterly. Minimum Temperature 2C.

Saturday:

Bright spells and scattered showers, wintry on hills, most over Argyll and isles. Thickening cloud in afternoon will bring outbreaks of rain and hill snow, heavy later, Strong southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 6C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Heavy rain and hill snow clearing around dawn Sunday, then scattered showers, but northwesterly gales for a time. Blustery, wintry showers Monday and Tuesday, some heavy with strong westerly winds

Fine and sunny, before rain arrives from the west later.

Today:

Generally fine with plenty of sunshine, especially in the east. Showers across the north will also ease during the afternoon. However further cloud, rain and strengthening winds will spread eastwards across Northern Ireland, reaching other western parts by dusk.

Tonight:

Cold and clear in the east at first. However cloud and outbreaks of rain across western parts will soon spread eastwards. Windy in the north and west

Saturday:

Rather cloudy at first, with outbreaks of rain, whilst blustery showers and strong winds continue across the northwest. Strong winds and heavy rain spreading into western parts during the afternoon.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Very windy with further rain at first on Sunday, clearing to sunshine and blustery showers, these increasingly wintry. Remaining cold, with brisk winds, and further wintry showers Monday and Tuesday.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 4 Mar 2015 to Friday 13 Mar 2015:

After an unsettled start to the period with frequent wintry showers on Wednesday, it should become drier from the southwest through Thursday. It will be windy and cold with overnight frosts. Pressure is then likely to build bringing a spell of dry weather through the following weekend, and possibly into the next working week. Most parts should be fine and dry, but cold with the potential for very cold nights. Later in the period it will probably become more unsettled in the far north/northwest with rain or showers. Meanwhile further south the signal is for a drier than average period, but still some patchy rain, and perhaps a little snow. It should turn gradually warmer; maximum temperatures may rise above average by the end of the period.

UK Outlook for Friday 13 Mar 2015 to Friday 27 Mar 2015:

There remains an increasing signal for higher pressure to develop at times across much of the UK. This would bring generally more settled conditions with many places dry and often sunny. Temperatures are rather uncertain, but maybe below average at times and cold overnight. This will lead to a risk of overnight frost, along with some local mist or fog patches, although these should quickly clear beneath the early spring sunshine. Whilst some cloudier conditions, along with spells of rain and showers are possible at times, the risk of any prolonged wet and windy conditions will be fairly low.
