A settled and warmer outlook for the weekend
After a mixed and at times unsettled spell earlier in the week, the weather is expected to become more settled as we head into the weekend, with temperatures gradually on the rise.
High pressure will begin to exert more influence, although it’s a story of contrasts on Saturday before conditions improve more widely on Sunday.
Saturday: sunshine in the south, showers in the north
Saturday brings a north–south split across the UK. Low pressure to the north continues to drive showers, particularly across northern parts of the UK, while higher pressure to the south allows for drier and brighter conditions further south.
Across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, a brisk north-westerly wind will bring frequent showers. At times, these could merge into longer spells of rain, especially during the morning. The breeze will also keep temperatures feeling relatively cool here, with values generally in the high teens.
Further south, the day will start on a brighter note. Central and southern parts of England and Wales are likely to see a good deal of sunshine early on, although cloud may build as the day progresses. In the far southwest, light winds under high pressure may lead to a murky start, with some low cloud or even patches of sea fog.

Through the afternoon, showers in the north will become more scattered, allowing for some brighter intervals and sunny spells to develop. Meanwhile, southern areas should enjoy longer periods of sunshine, helping temperatures climb into the low 20s.
Overall, Saturday marks a transition day, with improving conditions gradually pushing northwards.
Saturday night: easing winds and building high pressure
Into Saturday night, high pressure continues to build across the UK. Winds will generally ease, although some eastern areas may retain a light breeze for a time.
This shift sets the stage for a more settled and warmer day to follow on Sunday, with clearer skies allowing temperatures to recover more widely.
Sunday: widely fine, dry and warmer
By Sunday, high pressure becomes the dominant feature across much of the UK, bringing a largely dry and settled day. Most areas can expect a fine day with sunny spells, although some cloud may develop, particularly through the middle part of the day.
Any remaining showers are expected to be isolated and mainly confined to eastern coastal areas during the morning, where a brisk breeze may persist for a time. Elsewhere, winds will be lighter compared with Saturday, helping temperatures feel noticeably warmer.

Northern Ireland may see a little more cloud at times during the afternoon, but most places will remain dry, with sunny spells breaking through. Western and inland areas in particular will benefit from the lighter winds and stronger sunshine.
Sunday temperatures: warm sunshine for many
Temperatures on Sunday are expected to be fairly even across the UK, with values around 20°C in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and slightly higher in southern areas.
Parts of southern England and south Wales could reach around 22°C, making it feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine. However, along eastern coasts, temperatures may be a little lower, closer to the high teens, due to onshore winds and cooler sea surface temperatures.
