South West England weather forecast

Largely dry with bright or sunny spells. Becoming windy overnight.

Today:

A largely dry day with bright or sunny spells and perhaps the odd shower through the afternoon, mainly along northern coasts of Devon and Cornwall. Not feeling as warm than of late, and a strengthening breeze later. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Winds strengthening overnight and turning very blustery by the morning. A mix of clear spells and showers, these may merge into longer spells of rain and turn heavy with hail. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Monday:

Sunny spells and blustery showers, possibly heavy at times with hail, especially through the morning, becoming more scattered by the afternoon. Feeling noticeably chiller compared with recent days. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Generally drier for the rest of the week though some showers possible at times. Often breezy. Temperatures around the seasonal average and not feeling as warm than of late.

Winds from the north or northwest are expected to affect the UK at the start of this period. Some showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, these heaviest across the north and northwest, though systems still likely reaching the south east on Thursday. Temperatures are expected to mostly be below normal edging toward average or just above into the new week. Through the weekend and into the new week a build of pressure will probably occur, meaning more in the way of dry weather across the UK as a whole. Some rain of light showers will still be possible at times, if these develop they will be more likely to affect the northwest.

Towards the end of April, high pressure will probably be close to the UK with a good deal of dry weather for many areas. Moving into May, these settled conditions will probably move northwards, with the driest weather across the northwest of the UK. If any more unsettled conditions develop these are more likely to affect south with a risk of some heavy rain or showers. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, with warm days but some colder nights.
