A cloudy morning with mist, fog and patchy rain and drizzle lingering in rural parts at first. Drier and brighter later, with isolated sunny spells developing later in the afternoon. Feeling warm in the sunshine, but breezy in the west. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Showers spreading steadily northwards through this evening bring an overcast night, with occasional heavy outbreaks across the region. Mist forming readily in dry periods, but remaining windy in the west. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Wednesday:

Showers persist through Wednesday, moving slowly north-eastwards as winds turn light through the morning. Some heavy downpours at times, though some dry interludes as well. Feeling warm in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

An interlude of settled conditions on Thursday with light winds and plenty of sunshine, before becoming overcast and rather windy on Friday. Heavy rain returns from the southwest by Saturday.

There is potential for a deep area of low pressure to pass over or close to the west/northwest of the UK early in this period, potentially bringing a spell of very strong winds and heavy rain, especially to parts of the north and west. Through next week, an oscillation between occasional spells of rain, most frequent in the northwest, with longer drier interludes in-between, is likely. It may be rather windy at times too, again especially in northern and western areas. Towards late October there are signs that, whilst northwestern areas may continue to see some rain at times, high pressure may become increasingly influential, potentially bringing more widely settled and drier conditions, with an increasing chance of overnight frost and fog.

High pressure is likely to steadily become more influential around the turn of the month. This means plenty of dry weather to be had, but with the chance of overnight frost and fog becoming rather more widespread than in the days preceding this period. Some large fluctuations between daytime and nighttime temperatures are possible, with relatively mild days, where fog doesn't linger, and cold frosty nights. Towards mid-November, the area of high pressure may track towards the northwest, allowing a gradual trend towards colder and perhaps more unsettled conditions.
