When is the best time to visit Cuba?

Cuba has a wet and dry season, rather than the cold and warm seasons we experience in the UK. The dry season lasts from November to April, and is the best time of year to go for the driest and sunniest weather. Usually, the wet season lasts from May to October, but November also has high average rainfall, because the Atlantic hurricane season (which is June to November) has occasionally brought large rainfall totals.

Dry season (November to April)

These are the best months to visit Cuba if you are looking for clear blue sky. Temperatures are hot, peaking in April at 29.5 Celsius. The temperatures do get even hotter in the wet season, but they tend to be more comfortable during the dry season, due to the lower humidity.  There is a lot less rainfall, with March being the driest month (only 28mm rainfall on average). Showers are not completely out of the question, and although they are infrequent, they are likely to bring a brief but heavy downpour when you do catch one.

Wet Season (May to October)

Temperatures are at their hottest during the wet season, with average highs of 32.1 Celsius in August. However, this is also the most humid time of year to visit; especially in September with an average humidity of 80%. It also sees the most amount of rainfall, with as much as 141mm falling on average in June. Hurricanes can bring huge amounts of rainfall and extreme winds, with the peak of the hurricane season during August and September. These destructive weather systems should not be ruled out lightly, but bear in mind they are infrequent, and there are still plenty of sunny days during these months.
