When is the best time to go to St Lucia?

Temperatures in St Lucia range between 29-31 Celsius and as well, there is as an average of 7-8 hours of daily sunshine all year round. So if you’re after an escape from the colder UK winter then you’ll not be disappointed. Average annual rainfall is around 1400mm at low levels but it can be double this in the mountains, which gives St Lucia its lush rainforests. There are two seasons for rainfall, dry and wet.

Dry season (December to May / winter and spring)

The dry season is between December to May and although rain is still likely during these months, it is a lot less than during the wet season. The driest months are February and March with 56mm and 42mm of rainfall on average. Sunshine amounts remain high at around 7-8 hours and temperatures are between an average of 29.2 Celsius in February and 31.1 Celsius in May. Be prepared for a breeze though as the northeasterly trade winds provide a constant breeze across the island, which can help to make the suns heat more comfortable.

Wet season (June to November / summer and autumn)

June to November is the wet season and is often characterised by heavy showers and thunderstorms. While it is unlikely that you’ll have a washout, there remains the risk of hurricanes during this period as well with the most active period often generally falling between August to October. Rainfall is highest during October with an average of 224mm in the month, but temperatures remain high with averages of between 30.7 Celsius in November and 31.6 Celsius in September.

St Lucia tourist information

Nature, landscape and history

St Lucia has a thriving nature with vibrant flora and fauna, lush natural landscapes and a rich culture and history. It is considered by some as one of the most scenic islands of the Caribbean so why not take a guided tour. You can explore the Piton Mountains, two famous volcanic cones located along the islands southwest coast that erupted from the sea and are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hotels in the southern part of the island provide stunning views of these and also give a fabulous backdrop for wedding ceremonies. If you’re looking for some history then the beautiful Pigeon Island National Park could be for you. This is a notable landmark in St Lucia as it used to be a military base when the British and French fought over the island and the remnants of the military buildings can still be see today. The island is also home to many performances now with a Jazz and Arts festival held in May.

Marigot Bay

Marigot Bay is a beautiful location and was the setting for the original Dr Doolittle film. It is also famous for being the only bay in the Caribbean that forms a hurricane hole, so it provides an excellent shelter for boats.
