Diversity Action Forum

Representatives are drawn from across the Met Office Staff Networks to provide a consultative forum for communication on diversity issues. The forum is working to ensure that the environment we work in is a positive one that allows individuals to make a difference and the organisation to thrive.

The role of the Forum :

  • Work towards the long-term development of diversity and equality within the Met Office.
  • To propose actions that benefit all staff by seeking common themes from the various Networks

Internationals in the UK Network

Internationals in the UK Network is a soft network – run by volunteers, but open to all staff – to promote, support and celebrate the international character of our workplace, which we believe to be an attractive and valuable feature of the Met Office.

Specific activities include:

  • Improving language skills of international staff and visiting scientists from abroad via a weekly lunchtime English conversation group, supported by native speaker volunteers
  • Providing peer-to-peer advice on practicalities for living in the UK for new staff and visiting scientists from abroad
  • Broadening intercultural competency within the Met Office through cultural presentations given by staff members with an international origin
  • Occasional social events for networking between staff with and without an international background

Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender Network

Run by volunteers but open to all staff to:

  • Provide information and support for staff, their friends and family;
  • Increase awareness of LGBTQ issues;
  • Actively promote the Met Office diversity and inclusivity agenda to include encouraging difference, openness, fairness and transparency, through which a positive and open working environment can be created
