Regional forecast for South West England

This Evening and Tonight:

A few showers are likely this evening, but these will ease to leave a largely dry night with clear spells. The winds will ease too and it will turn chilly, particularly in rural spots. Minimum Temperature 2 °C.

Monday:

After a bright start for many, cloud in the far west will spread eastwards through the day. Patchy rain is possible but most will remain dry, with winds staying light. Maximum Temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Largely dry albeit rather cloudy on Tuesday. Rain will spread eastwards overnight and through Wednesday, turning lighter and patchier. Stronger winds by Thursday, and possibly some heavy rain.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
