This Evening and Tonight:

A cool start to the night is forecast with some clear spells expected. However cloud will thicken from the west later with outbreaks of rain arriving by dawn. Winds will freshen later, becoming strong along exposed coasts. Minimum Temperature 5 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy and windy with occasional rain or drizzle, perhaps occasionally bright, then rain clearing during the evening. Cloud will increase later with rain by dawn, becoming windy with coastal gales. Maximum Temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloudy with occasionally heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday, clearing during evening. Bright start on Thursday, but with showers developing. Frosty overnight, then mainly dry, often sunny on Friday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
