Today:

Frosty start for some. Fine with bright or sunny spells, although cloudier across south-western parts. Some showers may affect North Sea coastal areas, these largely fading early-afternoon. Dry elsewhere. Still rather cold but feeling pleasant in the sunshine. Gentle winds. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

Temperatures falling away under clearer skies with a patchy overnight frost forming in the east. Cloud will gradually thicken from the west bringing patchy rain to western parts around dawn. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Tuesday:

Fine start in the east. Bands of rain will spread eastward through the day, turning heavy at times. Brightening up from the west later with isolated showers. Drier overnight. Breezy. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Patchy rain and drizzle pushing eastward Wednesday, turning heavy and more persistent. Sunny spells Thursday with locally thundery showers. Heavy rain overnight into Friday. Brighter Friday afternoon, with showers. Windy.

Some dry weather at first in parts of the north and east on Friday, but heavy rain and strong winds moving in from the west or southwest through the day. Some uncertainty in the details but the heaviest rain and strongest winds most likely affecting parts of the south and west. Thereafter, a predominantly unsettled pattern continues, with showers or longer spells of rain for many, although these interspersed with brief drier or brighter spells. By the second week of April, perhaps the greater chance of drier conditions will be across the north, albeit with some overnight frost. Further south, a higher likelihood of further wet weather at times. Overall, temperatures probably averaging out close to normal.

A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April, with rain-bearing weather systems more likely to affect southern areas from time to time. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight, this most likely in the north. A possibility of strong winds at times, with temperatures generally close to average for the time of year.
